Price of Stay charged by the Host

When a Guest confirms a reservation with a Host, they pay through Lingoo who holds the money securely and then transfers the funds to the Host at the beginning of the stay through our payment partner, Tipalti.

Guests can pay 100% of the price agreed with the Host, or if the starting date of the paid stay is more than 40 days ahead, they can pay an initial deposit of 50% at the time of reserving. Lingoo will confirm the reservation to the Guest when the first payment is received and share the full contact details of Host and Guest when 100% of the payment has been made.

Guests can be reassured that they do not have to send funds directly to a Host and potentially incur expensive bank charges. Lingoo sends the Host 70% of the agreed price of the stay on the first day the stay begins and the final 30% on day after the end of the stay.

 Booking Voucher

The Booking Voucher is calculated as 15% of the following items: half or full-board, and language lessons included automatically for Teachers’ stays. At the moment of payment for the stay, the price paid for the Booking Voucher (net) is discounted by the site from the total price charged by the Host. This reservation fee is invoiced to the Guest by Lingoo to cover the cost of our introductory services provided to members and is subject to VAT, depending on where the Guest lives.

 Charges applicable to the Guest

Guest Fees, invoiced by Lingoo, fall into 3 categories:

  •  Guest Booking Fee: This fee is calculated on the same items as the Booking Voucher, as 5% for Free Members and 2.5% for Verified Members. Full Members do not pay this fee. The Guest Booking Fee is subject to VAT, depending on where the Guest lives.
  •  A Booking Admin Charge is added when the price of the Booking Voucher is below Lingoo’s minimum charge. The minimum Booking Voucher price varies by region but will never be more than 160 EUR.  Guests are unlikely to see this charge unless they reserve a very short stay. The Booking Admin Charge is subject to VAT, depending on where the Guest lives.
  •  A Security Verification Charge is added to the price of a reservation made by a Free Member. This is a one-off charge for the verification of their identity and address. After paying the Security Verification Charge, the Free Member is automatically upgraded to the Verified Membership level and will benefit from a lower booking fee for subsequent reservations. The Security Verification charge is subject to VAT, depending on where the Guest lives.
  •

 Bank Charges

  • Bank Fees charged to the Guest are incurred by Lingoo to collect securely, hold and then transfer the funds from the Guest to the Host at the beginning and end of the paid stay.
  • Currency Fees are added when a Host requests to be paid in a in their local currency (instead of EUR), These foreign exchange charges, incurred by Lingoo, are invoiced to the Guest.

Bank Charges are subject to VAT, depending on where the Guest lives.

Lingoo aim to show transparency in how the Guest is charged throughout the reservation process, booking contract and subsequent invoice. Our aim is to create a high level of security, both personal and financial, throughout the online transaction process between individuals living in different parts of the world.
