""John works as a recruitment consultant from home and in London; Phoebe worked as an actress before the birth of the children and is an English language and literature graduate with a TEFL qualification and 20 years experience. She teaches adult literacy throughout the year and devotes the summer to hosting students. She and John run the small estate where they live looking after the animals and gardens. Her sister who is a musician also lives in part of the house and has her studio upstairs. Tom (26) is now in the Coldstream Guards. Hugh(24) is studying veterinary science and works on and off from home during the holidays . Ophelia(20) will be home from university helping to host the students.
We are very lucky to live in a beautiful house set in a hidden valley in SW England near to lots of attractions. We all love the outdoor life and our menagerie comprising dogs, cat, ponies and chickens and enjoy sharing it with the children who come and stay with us. We encourage them to enjoy all we have to offer - playing tennis on our court , swimming or kayaking on our lake, helping to pick the fruit and vegetables we grow in our garden. We also let the children ride our ponies under supervision and go for accompanied bike rides. Phoebe can give one to one English lessons to those who want extra help with their English and we insist on speaking English at all meals and while having fun doing activities.
We are five minutes from the picturesque town of Shaftesbury. Visits can be arranged to Bath, Salisbury and Stonehenge which are all within 45 minutes and the seaside an hour away. We also explore our woods and Iron Age Fort and walk up on the Downs.
We love welcoming young people to our home and all our guests enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the time we spend chatting, playing games and getting to know one another and learning about the idiosyncracies of our different cultures. We teach guests to cook English food, baking cakes and making jam and encourage them to teach us to cook their favourite home food. We all share our meals together and chat around the table. Being able to muck in enhances the enjoyment of a stay with us. We endeavour to host different nationalities concurrently so everyone communicates in English and our guests make new friends. Guests return to us year after year and recommend their friends.
