Prior to being developed as a purpose-built resort in 1810 for wealthy Victorians, Bournemouth was simply deserted heathland. Since then people have flocked to the seven miles of wide, sandy yellow beaches. The town centre architecture is notably Victorian and the skyline dominated by St Peter’s Church’s magnificent 62m spire.
