Homestays for children and teenagers

Language homestays allow children or teenagers to eat, sleep and breathe a foreign language. Staying with a friendly host family abroad provides that unique space in which they can grow in confidence, build language proficiency and even gain maturity and independence.

During their language homestay your child or teenager will be completely immersed in the country's language and culture in ideal conditions because they'll be involved in the family's everyday life. They may also – why not? – take a language course during the stay; that will be all the easier if your homestay family lends a hand in organising it.  Some of our homestay families for children offer one to one language tuition themselves.

  • Language Au Pair : Receive a language Au Pair in your own home for native speaker language support for your child or children.

A language homestay for your child or teenager is a very different language immersion stay than a traditional language school.

  • Parents choose and get to know the homestay family before reserving.
  • You have time to get to know your language homestay family before your children travel and avoid that awful moment when they arrive at the doorstep to meet strangers.
  • Your child or teenager will be completely immersed into family life and surrounded by speakers of their target language.
  • Homestays are very good value for money compared to a traditional language school.

Choose your homestay family from thousands of registered and approved families with detailed profiles on our site. Simply find a homestay family in the place you’d like to stay, look through their profile photos, see if you share the same interests, diet and even religion. If you like what you see, contact them through our secure messaging system, get to know them and when you’re both happy, book a language homestay.

The Lingoo hosts who provide quality homestay for adults are a diverse and flexible group of people. You will find traditional and single-parent families, single adults and retirees. Each has a slightly different project and all can be accommodated within the Lingoo site.  The one thing they all have in common though is that they firmly believe learning a foreign language should be a fun and natural process.

Our hosts will help you learn and practise your target language in everyday situations, such as cooking, chatting around the dinner table or practicing a hobby or interest. Our homestay families understand that an important part of their role is providing students with a cultural as well as a language immersion.

All members on Lingoo have passed a strict validation process conducted by one of our team. Our  procedures have been put in place to ensure every homestay is safe, secure and great value for money. We check the identity of every host, together with references and proof of address. In addition, we provide visitor evaluations, contracts for each reservation, and support from the support team to ensure that your homestay is the ideal way to improve your language skills.
