As a host should I set house rules?
Every home has rules. They don’t need to be rigid, just a simple set of guidelines to keep everyone safe and happy during the homestay. Some simple examples might be: ‘No smoking indoors’ or ‘Please lock all doors and windows at all times’. These should be communicated to all guests at the booking stage.
For younger learners, consider important issues such as whether a set bedtime is required, if they are old enough to leave the house without an adult and access to mobile phones and tablets. These rules can often be agreed between what you would prefer and the parents of your young guest.
