"Dear Family,
My name is Rowena and I am 23 years old from England. My mother is a teacher and my father is a landscape architect. I have an older brother and sister and I am a proud Auntie to a cheeky niece (age 2) and a sweet nephew (age 9 months), and both are growing up fast! I also have a handsome border collie named Milo, and I love animals, especially dogs!
I am currently writing my Master's thesis in Ancient History at the University of Exeter. Once I submit my thesis (due in early September), I am taking a year study-break before beginning my PhD in September 2021. I wish to spend a year away from my studies, so I can experience living abroad, learn German and fulfil my passion for teaching, before returning to the research world.
Living with a host family is best way to fully immerse myself in German culture, as well as making new connections and friends. I love teaching and the journey of learning. I have a University teaching qualification (Learning and Teaching in Higher Education), and work experience teaching children ages 9-10. I also have informal teaching experience with my niece and nephew, which mainly involves teaching them not to eat paper!
I am a very sporty individual, and I have coaching experience in aikido (martial arts) and cricket, so I am happy to provide sports lessons or to just play and kick a ball around in the garden.
I love exploring nature and whenever I visit a new place I love learning about its history, culture and of course food! I also enjoy chilled, quiet evenings, whether listening to music, reading a book or having a long conversation over a cup of tea!
I am a kind, considerate and polite individual and house-guest. I am very flexible and willing to teach any age group. I would prefer to have working hours which would allow me to attend German-language classes and maybe even join a local sports team in the evening.
I am looking to stay for an initial two months. I would be delighted to answer any questions you may have and would love the opportunity to speak with you.
I look forward to hearing from you.
All the best,
Rowena."
