"Bella is a complete novice with a bit experience in conversational French. She would like to do a linguistic and cultural exchange for 6 months with a French family with a girl of 9 or 10 years of age.
We live in a small village in Essex (45 min train journey to London). We have a 3-bedroomed house with a garden. We have chickens. The French girl would stay in Bella’s bedroom.
My husband works full-time and is self employed in the agriculture business. He has several diggers and does ground work. I work part-time managing 18 properties in London.
Working part-time allows me to home educate our children Bella (9) and Bertie (7). We spend much time outdoors playing in the woods, camping with friends and doing lots of sport. We are learning to sail at a club in London at the moment. Bella enjoys her triathlon club, doing gymnastics and ballet. We enjoy going swimming with friends. Twice a year we go to Cornwall in our caravan and the children enjoy surfing.
The girl that would like to stay with us can either go to our local village school or be home educated with us. We can do structured work in the morning in English and maths. Afterwards we meet up with friends and do various things - play in the woods, learn about nature, go to drama class, do lots of art at home, and take part in local sports such as swimming, running and cycling.
Occasionally, we go to London on cultural trips with our friends. For example, the Natural History Museum and Science Museum. We like going to local festivals which happens in the spring and summer months. For example, Circus Camp happened in May learning about circus skills. Home Ed Festval in August where you do various art and crafts, science events, playing with other children, singing workshop, playing the ukelele etc.
